Memory foam mattress topper?

My husband & I have been considering buying a memory foam mattress topper. I have been doing tons of research and am still confused. I'd love some feedback from people who own one. 1) what kind do you have (name brand or generic)? 2) How thick of one do you have? 3) What about the smell, have you had problems with it? 4) Did you have problems with the sizing and having it fit your bed? 5) My husband gets hot when he sleeps, have you had problems with it holding in the heat? And, most importantly, 6) do you like it and would you recommend it to a friend?

The toppers don't work as well as the mattress. Spend the money on a Tempurpedic. It's well worth it.

3. The new smell fades in a couple of weeks, like any mattress.

4. Yes, I've had plenty of problems with sizing... and the sheets don't hold well on a topper.

5. Tempurpedics don't hold in heat like toppers do.

6. I would recommend a Tempurpedic to anyone. Best purchase I ever made. You fall asleep as soon as your head hits that pillow. It's the best night's sleep you'll ever have!

Help me pick out a King size mattress under $1300. Should I get a Memory Foam?

I am looking for a new mattress and feeling a bit overwhelmed. I cant decide if I should purchase a memory foam or just a regular old mattress and then at some point possibly put on a Memory Foam Topper. I have a Euro Style bed frame with a built in box spring (very low to the floor). I can spend up to $1300, but would like to stay under that. I have seen a "Euro Topper" King Mattress at Sam's Club for $700. So what kind, brand, type, style... whatever mattress should I get?

the only way to determine what would be the correct mattress for you is to lay on them. with memory foam, you will either love it or hate it. i don't like memory foam because of the way it feels, and it seems really hot. however, my girlfreind loves her memory foam mattress. i prefer the new latex mattresses. it's really heavy but won't wear out like a typical coil spring.
depending on the manufacturer and materials used, the pillow tops on mattresses tend to compress after 8 - 12 mo's. they tend to get a dip in the pillow top if you sleep in the same place all of the time. so if your not sleeping in the dip, you tend to roll back into it. the thicker the pillow top the deeper the ditch.
try visiting a few really good mattress/furniture stores and plan on spending the day laying on them. a good, knowledgable sales person will ask you a few questions and be able to recommend the right ones for you to try. they can also answer any questions about the differences in manufacturers. many bigger stores will have a trial period so you can take it home and sleep on it for up to 4 months. a body takes a few weeks to get used to a new mattress. i used to sell furniture including mattresses.
