Can I Use a Queen Comforter on Twin XL Bed?

Going off to college in the fall and I have to live in the dorm room for the first year (it's mandatory).
I've always had a Queen sized bed so I only Queen sized comforters and duvets and I really like my current one.
Would I be able to use a Queen sized comforter and duvet on a dorm room Twin XL bed or would it just be too over sized?
I'll definitely be getting Twin XL sheets but I don't want to have to buy all new bedding that I'll only use for a year.

Your twin XL (39" x 80') is the same length as your queen but not as wide. A queen is 60" w x 80' l so you will have a 10" overhang on the bed. But, you can, if you wanted to, remake your queen duvet into the same width as you dorm bed if you really love, love, love it or you can just purchase a twin XL duvet cover pretty inexpensively but you would need to purchase the comforter as well. Do a search for twin XL duvet covers or dorm bedding. It boils down to your budget. There are a lot of nice budgeted twin XL sets in Target, etc. See below:
