Deep in the heart of Western Australia wine country, and a production of a member of Australia's First Wine Families, you will find the vineyards of Howard Park.  These vines have been providing Australia and the world with succulent and highly sought after vintages for a very long time.  The Howard Park Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon is no exception, as it has won the Australian Cabernet Sauvignon of the Year reward for its 2008 vintage.

This year in the prestigious "The Big Red Wine Book 2010/11" by Campbell Mattinson and Gary Walsh has announced Abercrombie as the flagship wine from Howard Park.  The review states: "Howard Park has been making top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon for over twenty years but it's pulled out a ripper from the 2008 vintage.  This is what cabernet is all about.  Long flavoured, rich and regal, it's potential for cellaring abundantly clear.  This is a wine with both authority and softness; as with so many of the world's best wines, this will drink beautifully in a situation, as a young wine and also once it's old.  This wine melts in your mouth."

Howard Park's Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon has actually won quite a few accolades since its birth 1986.  A child of some of the oldest vineyards on the continent, this vintage has never failed to please.  From its first Silver Medal at London's International Wine Challenge in 1999 through 2007's Concours Mondial de Bruxelies's Gold Medal onward to the 2009 New Zealand International Wine Show and its Silver Medal Abercrombie has never failed.

This star was named for the vintner's great grandfather Walter Abercrombie and demonstrates a quiet eloquence and a power that subdues and burns a fire in your soul.  It contains a perfect chemical balance between the earthy tones, the perfume from the blackcurrant of Mount Barker and a fruitful chocolate feel from the Margaret River region.  This vintage is only fashioned from the top1% of cabernet sauvignon grapes and only when it is known that the crop will offer the world the most superb flavour from its harvest.

The 2008's growing season was one that was classic in nature for Western Australia.  The vines ripened flawlessly without having to rush, the colours were dark and deep, while the tannins were lithely matured.  The Abercrombie's fruit is all hand picked and hand plunged to assure the balance that is expected from this high end wine.

When you first open the bottle of Howard Park's Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon you will be overcome with the delectable aromas of blackberry, cedar, tomato leaf and chocolate.  Once the wine pours in and you taste this creation you will be gleeful at the attendance of a fruitfulness that honours the Great Southern region in the very fibre of its being.  You will taste the red berry fruits balanced with the wine's tannins.  As the journey completes, the wine will finish with the long fruit and elements balanced within the mocha oak.

All in all, the praise is not unwarranted.  The Howard Park Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon is truly the flagship of the field.  Jeff Burch and his vineyards have produced an extraordinary wine that should not be passed over by any means.  Kick your feet up, light some candles, dim some lights and grab yourself a good book.  Now, select your favourite wine glass and pour yourself a little bit of heaven.  Abercrombie awaits you.
