Animal Diversity website says there are about 8 or 9 million animal species. However, only about 2 million, msn encarta, have been cataloged or documented. The wikipedia says there are about one million kinds of worms. They eat detritus or decaying leaf matter in the soil. But are decomposers, not herbivores. There is about one million species of arthropods, or insects and arachnids, but we can't count those. Combined that is most of them though. The vast majority of reptiles are carnivorous such as all snakes. Birds tend to be more insectivore or even omnivore unless it is a raptor or vulture. Mammals would have to say 50/50, no source just know alot about animals, can't count fish, amphibians tend to eat insects. Those are the chordates for land animals.
