Flannel Sheet Set

My cats need to learn to wipe their behinds...help! ?

I hope I'm not the only one out there that has this problem. Not to brag...but I own a beautiful bedroom set...and beautiful cream flannel sheets... My cats are killing me. I love them both to death - they're about 3 months old. But here's my problem - not only am I constantly getting kitty litter crumbs in my bed - I'm also waking up to POOP STAINS on my pillows and sheets. Pardon the profanity. I'm tired of washing my sheets every day...and closing the door at night is out of the question, too. It may be their diet - I feed them raw and wet food....but I guess I'm just wondering if there are any other cat owners out there who feel my pain.

oh - and they get kibble, too...but primarily raw/wet twice a day. They're tabby's, so they don't have a lot of hair on their butt. Just at my wit's end.

First, good for you for feeding them raw and canned! That is abfab.

Unfortunately, that kind of thing is rather common in kittens and it's something they grow out of.

Doesn't help your sheets in the meantime, though.

I'm not an expert on the raw diets although I've done a bit of research. You might want to up the calcium amounts - too much calcium can cause constipation so it seems logical that a little more might firm things up. Or perhaps switch to another brand of canned food - sometimes even the good foods will cause upsets.

Also try adding a little extra water to the foods - perhaps a teaspoonful - that'll aid digestion as well.

I don't know if you'd want to give slippery elm or probiotics to a kitten, but those are the things I would do in cases of loose stool.

Perhaps join a few of the Yahoo groups for raw feeding if you're not already a member - I've belonged to several and they're all full of very helpful people, even if they do all have different ideas about what's the right way to feed raw.

Or join one I belong to - Whole Cat Health. It's not focused on raw feeding but on cats in general, and you're sure to get excellent advice there.

EDIT: One last bit of advice - put a towel or rug down next to the litterbox. That'll help catch a good bit of litter. If you're using the clumping kind you might try another brand or a non-clumping brand. I personally use Fresh Step - I'm not a huge fan but I've found it to handle things the best of all I've tried, and most of the gravel gets caught on the rug by the boxes.

Also, you might want to put away the good sheets for a while. I know it sucks, but until these guys firm up it'll save you a bit of angst! I know what a pain this is - I had to put hand towels down on my dining room chairs because of Poppy's messy behind.
