Cal King Water
i just brought a juvenile Cal King snake home from the pet store, what should i do/expect in the first 2 weeks
He just a day or two before I picked him up, and i've got all the recommended supplies (aspen snake bedding, UV lamp, undertank heater, hideaway, water dish). as soon as i put him in his tank, he crawled straight into his cave.
how long until i can start handling him? if he's used to eating live mice, how can i get him started on pre-frozen mice?
Snakes do not eat 'frozen' food....it must be thawed!
Thaw out their food in warm water, do not microwave it.
Also, I strongly urge you to feed you snake outside his cage, as you do not want your snake to associate a hand reaching in a tank as food.
You can handle your snake everyday....except when he is about to shed,(snakes are vulnerable when their eyes cloud and tend to be grouchy) which you will recognize when his eyes go a cloudy blue....best then to wait til he sheds. Once he sheds make sure to remove the old skin, and make sure he has shed completely, esp his eyes.
