It depends in part on what size t-shirts you are using, or, more accurately, what size squares you are cutting from the t-shirts. Also, are you sewing the t-shirts squares directly to each other (like this: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf293441.tip.html), or putting decorative strips in between (see http://www.cozytee.com/ if link is blocked, please type it in)?

Here are approximate quilt sizes. Decide about your borders, and subtract. Then divide that number by the width/height of your t-shirt blocks, and that will tell you how many t-shirt blocks you need.

LAP: Usually between 52" - 68" wide and the length can be from about 52" - 78".
TWIN: Usually between 64" - 72" wide and the length can be from about 86" - 96".
FULL: Usually between 70" - 88" wide and the length can be from about 88" - 100".
QUEEN: Usually between 88" - 99" wide and the length can be from about 94" - 108".
QUEEN WATERBED: Approximately 76" x 104".
KING: Usually between 94" - 108" wide and the length can be from about the same, 94" - 108".
CALIFORNIA KING: Usually between 100" x 98" and 114" x 117".

I am making a fleece blanket, are both pieces material suppose to be the same size?

For twin grandsons, bought one already cut but under piece is bigger all the way around

If the smaller one is still large enough for the blanket size you want to make, trim the larger one down so they are both the same size.

If the smaller one is too small, buy another piece the same length and width as the larger one.
