How do you clean and disinfect your baby's microplush toys and blankets?

Some of my favorite blankets and toys for my son are micro plush or a plush shag. I want to clean and sanitize them, but I am scared I will ruin such beloved items. What do you do to keep the integrity of the plush items fur or fabric?

A few options:

1. Put in a clear plastic bag or bin in the sun for a few hours. Check online to see how long this should take, but the sun is very good at killing bacteria, just as it does with laundry on the line. Just don't put them in damp or leave them too long--they might mildew. In fact, you could just hang them on the line, depending on how fragile they are, but turn them over after a while to make sure the area covered by the clothespins gets disinfected.

2. Buy a small, portable steam cleaner. I have one and use it to steam-clean curtains, etc.

3. I'm not certain, but the dryer might get hot enough to sanitize them, although perhaps that would be too hot for them.

I know what it's like. My son's favorite toy was a stuffed, cotton one that I made him--one of those cut, sew, and stuff things. Even though it was easily washable, he loved it threadbare, and I "operated" on it many times.
